These are the notes we took together on Nelson Mathematics chapter 10, "Angles and Triangles". Here are all the photos in one downloadable PDF: 2015-05-13 Chapter 10 Angles and Triangles [file unavailable]
I can't recommend Cabri 2 Plus highly enough for the study of this unit. It is a really cool tool for the study of geometry.
Chapter Introduction
Includes learning goals and chapter sections:
- Construct circles, triangles and quadrilaterals, and describe their properties
- Investigate, describe and use the relationships between angles of intersecting lines
- Investigate, describe and use the Pythagorean relationship for right angles
- Create and solve problems that involve lines, angles and right triangles
Chapter sections:
- 10.1: Exploring Points on a Circle
- 10.2: Intersecting Lines, Parallel Lines and Transversals
- 10.3: Angles in a Triangle
- 10.4: Exploring Quadrilaterals
- 10.5: Exploring Right Triangles
- 10.6: Applying the Pythagorean Theorem
- 10.7: Solve Problems Using Logical Reasoning
Mini-Quiz
Section 10.1: Exploring Points on a Circle
Defines equidistant and perpendicular bisector.
Section 10.2: Intersecting Lines, Parallel Lines and Transversals
Defines transversal, opposite angles, adjacent angles, straight angle, supplementary angles, corresponding angles, right angle and complementary angles.
Section 10.3: Angles in a Triangle
Discusses the sum of the angles in a triangle, with examples.
Solving Problems Using Angle PropertiesIntroduces supplementary angles, corresponding angles, alternate angle theorem, opposite angle theorem, sum of the angles in a triangle theorem, isosceles triangle theorem, exterior angle theorem, sum of the angles in a polygon theorem, as well as complementary angles.
Section 10.5: Exploring Right Triangles
Defines a right triangle, and starts to introduce the Pythagorean Theorem.
Implications of the Pythagorean TheoremExamines how the theorem works.
Pythagorean Theorem and AlgebraThis section is actually badly named. I had originally intended to introduce algebraic equations within the context of the Pythagorean Theorem, but it looked like it might be a bit too complicated.
Chapter 10 Cahier Success Criteria
We evaluated student cahiers during this chapter. This was what I was looking for.
