These notes are based on the Nelson Mathematics 8 program. I'm (hopefully) going to start doing a better job of recording the notes we go over. It would be great to be able to look back at this post next year when I'm teaching the same chapter, and see what we did. I try to improve my notes each year, and this will give me a baseline to work from. I unfortunately only have about half the unit saved in pictures, but here goes.
Chapter Overview
Review of certain support questions from pages 67 - 75
Section 2.8: Solving Percent Problems Using Decimals
Section 2.9: Solve Problems by Changing Your Point of View
Shirt Sale
We had a look at the effect of sales and taxes on the cost of t-shirts. I based this problem loosely on the Mathematics Assessment Project's "Sale!".
Golden Crown
This was a pretty cool problem we worked on together. It can be solved using grade 8 math, but many of the students taught themselves how to solve systems of equations in order to solve the problem. This problem was taken from the Mathematics Assessment Project's "A Golden Crown".
